Customer Reviews:

This is far away the best concert I have in my collection! Jul 27, 2010

The concert is unbelievable!
Excellent image quality and awesome audio. The concert itself is a "must have", but is blu ray it is incredible.
Extras are cool, like Brian May and Roger Taylor comments.

God save the Queen!!!

*Exciting* Concert! A Must For Rock *Fans*! Jun 21, 2010

The QUEEN: ROCK MONTREAL & LIVE AID BLU-RAY is a fantastic movie that captures the dynamic energy that was created when Queen played in concert. I've seen the Live Aid set from Live Aid (4 Disc Set) and that was one of those seminal "live" performances that go down in rock history (next to Santana and Sly & The Family Stone at Woodstock and Janis Joplin at Monterey), which is included on this set as well.

Montreal's concert is just as great and this had much to do with the charismatic, flamboyant, and über talented front-man Freddie Mercury. Mercury sings, plays the guitar, piano, and microphone stand, and prances around the stage as he whips the crowd into a frenzy! He also goes through some minor costume changes, in true diva fashion, finally appearing in hot pants and bare feet. Gotta love Freddy!

The picture quality is outstanding and the camera work is excellent. Even on the "Live Aid" set, the picture is pretty sharp though it still exhibits the phenomenon of "microphany"(a term used to describe horizontal banding stripes that occur in parts of the film on certain cameras that were close-up during the UK performances in Live Aid) but that doesn't interfere with viewing pleasure.

Queen played tight on both concerts and Mercury was in fine voice belting out their hits and encouraging audience sing-a-longs.

Here's a run down of the extras:

* 25:11-minute -- LIVE AID SET --
includes performance of "Is This The World We Created" that was performed at night. i don't remember if this was included on the box set DVD of Live Aid, but it's a great performance as well.

* 10:56-minute -- LIVE AID REHEARSAL
behind the scenes footage of Queen rehearsing and an interview. it's funny because the reporter states that Queen is known for their "fantastic live performances with light shows, fancy props and backdrops etc.," and wonders "since they won't be able to do that at 'Live Aid,' will they have the same impact/success?" well, Queen more than proved that they didn't need any accoutrements to blow the audience away.

* 06:46-minute -- 1982 Interview from P.M. MAGAZINE
the picture quality is grainy and the volume is low, but it's cool to see this old show. this is basically a profile of the band and an intro to each member.

The BLU-RAY also comes with a small booklet with color photos and credits.

If you enjoy live rock concerts then this is definitely a must. You won't be disappointed and it's the next best thing to actually being there. I might also recommend Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace & Music Director's Cut (40th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition with Amazon Exclusive Bonus Disc) and the aforementioned Live Aid (4 Disc Set), which are not only great concert movies but also documentaries on the probably the two biggest concerts of the last century.

Killer Queen! May 24, 2010

The Montreal concert is a killer! Freddy Mercury is really a star performer, and so are the other members of the band. The Live Aid concert is a great bonus... that part where the audience was clapping their hands in unison for Radio Gaga just shows you how much influence the band had on the people back then. Great stuff!

Now, why only 4 stars? The concert was great but of course the video was not taken to take advantage of the HD quality that current systems now have to offer. The video was grainy at best and parts of the Live Aid coverage had green bands showing. Not sure what the DVD version has to offer (in terms of content) but this is not an HD/blu-ray material.

Anyway, I recommend this video to everyone... especially those who were already alive and kickin' back in the 80s. My friends and I had a great time watching the concert over a few bottles of San Migs.

If you had VOOM Apr 29, 2010

If you had VOOM, this is the same concert they aired. Great video - the scenes do not pan the audience every 30 seconds and the picture is stellar. Outstanding audio - this is the best Queen that will ever bless your ears. Great song list - really covers the bands versatility. Look forward to seeing this timeless concert again and again.

Gods gift Apr 12, 2010

The picture quality is better than any other concert I have seen on blu-ray.

Shooting on 35mm film was definitely the right choice.The colors are all highly saturated and the detail is amazing. You can see the dust and finger prints on the monitors, the uneven texture on the surface of Brian's guitar and all the little details in Roger's drum kit. I have never seen a more beautiful concert video; and to think this was shot 25 years ago.

The sound is excellent too,but LPCM Uncompressed stereo is far better then Dolby True 5.1 HD.

Musically the band is in great.Freddie's vocals are gift from god and his live performance catched by every eyes.

Even though Queen were at their peak in popularity when they filmed this performance, in my opinion this was not their artistic peak.The only thing which added flavor to the concert was High Definition.The first ever concert was shot in HD in 1981.

Its recommended to any great fan of Freddy Mercury.The Legends.....and a god performer on the stage.
